You’ve found a provider you trust, but they’re out-of-network. Does that mean you’re stuck with the full bill? Not necessarily. Enter the Superbill the golden ticket to potentially getting your insurance company to pay you back.

In our practice, we provide you with a Superbill so you can take control of your benefits. Here is exactly how to use it and the questions you need to ask to ensure you’re getting every penny you’re owed.

What exactly is a Superbill?

Think of it as a "receipt on steroids." Unlike a regular receipt, a Superbill contains the specific medical "languages" that insurance companies speak:

ICD-10 Codes: Your diagnosis (The Why).

CPT Codes: The specific treatment provided (The What).

Provider Info: My NPI and Tax ID (The Who).

3 Steps to Superbill Success

1. Pay at the time of service: You pay the practice directly.

2. Submit the Superbill: You upload the document we give you to your insurance portal (or mail it in).

3. Get a check: If you have out-of-network benefits, the insurance company sends a reimbursement check directly to your mailbox.

 The "Superbill" Phone Script

Keep this by your side when you call the number on the back of your insurance card.

The Goal: To find out if your insurance will cut you a check for your out-of-network care.

Phase 1: The "Big Picture" Questions

• "Do I have Out-of-Network (OON) benefits for Chiropractic care?"

If No: Ask if you can use your HSA/FSA instead (usually the answer is yes!).

• "What is my Out-of-Network Deductible?"

Follow up: "How much of that deductible have I met so far this year?"

• "What is my Co-insurance percentage for OON Chiropractic?"

Translation: This is the percentage they pay after you hit your deductible (usually 60% or 80%).

Phase 2: The "Technical" Questions (The CPT Codes)

• "What is the 'Allowed Amount' for CPT code 98940 or 98941?"

Why: This is the maximum dollar amount the insurance company recognizes for an adjustment.

• "Are there any limits on the number of visits per year?"

Why: You don't want to find out on visit #13 that they only cover 12.

Phase 3: The "Logistics" Questions

• "Can I submit my Superbills via an online member portal or mobile app?"

Why: This is 10x faster than snail mail.

• "What is the 'Timely Filing' limit for submitting a claim?"

Why: Some companies require you to submit the Superbill within 90 days of the appointment.
